I was searching the repository for instances of Makefile.am when I saw Edgar Denny's logs in the ChangeLog mentioning the conversion from C to Python. I had no idea that the project was originally written in C. I was planning on doing some conversion to prepare for making GNUtrition extensible with GNU Guile. If the original C code exists, it may be substantially easier for me to expose functionality to Guile. I am aware that the generically-named "code" module in Python (2.7.6) would provide an interactive interpreter, but I'm hoping that using Guile would bring GNUtrition closer to other GNU projects even if it's only in a development branch of GNUtrition. I am also aware that the conversion to C has been discussed in the bug-gnutrition archives, but the bazaar repository at http://savannah.gnu.org/bzr/?group=gnutrition that had the C code is turned off at present. Message-ID: <571C76C0.7050207@gmail.com> This merge request is for the C_Development branch. I noticed that the sql prepared statements were being recompiled for every parsed line. These changes reduce compilation to once per input file. For me, these changes reduce the time needed to create the database file from the source text files by about two thirds. This is a feature request for such an option -- I would like to unambiguously report bugs for the C branches with the bugtracker. I suggest an option name like "C HEAD" for the `gnutrition' branch and "C_Development" for the `C_Development' branch. That way, the `Development Version' option can still refer to the `development' branch for the Python code. Meh? > > Calvin I am not sure that there is sufficient activity or number of people to warrant a dedicated IRC channel. #gnu has in their topic that "This is the right place to ask about any GNU-related item." That would include GNUtrition by definition. :) Some have mentions #gnu being too offtopic though. #gnu-dev also exists but I'm not sure how official it is.
