Are you familiar with the GNU Coding Standards? If not, it would be a
good idea to read them: http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/

I use the Bazaar version control system. The current source code can
be obtained with:

     bzr branch bzr://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/gnutrition

I would love to know any ideas you have. Let's start talking!
